Take What You Like, Leave the Rest: Healing the Echo of Old Beliefs Through Yoga & Ayurveda

“Remember who you were isn’t who you are now — and you don’t have to keep looking back to that person to judge who you’ve become.”
Take What You Like, Leave the Rest is something I’ve heard in recovery circles and spiritual teachings for years. But it hit me in a new way recently, as I reflected on an old post I made—one that I believed deeply at the time. With more life experience and the lens of yoga and Ayurveda, I’ve come to see how our beliefs shift, grow, and evolve. And I believe that’s a sign of real healing.
In this episode, I share what it’s looked like for me to re-evaluate past versions of myself without judgment. How I’ve learned to let go of ideas that no longer fit, and how I’ve started to make peace with the process of becoming. It’s not about being right all the time. It’s about being present, being real, and understanding that every version of me was doing the best they could with what they knew.
Here’s what I explore in this episode:
-
How yoga and Ayurveda help soften rigid thinking
-
What it means to let go of attachment to outcomes
-
How cultural disconnection from elders affects our growth
-
The emotional weight of nostalgia and comfort-seeking
-
And why healing starts with radical self-compassion
If you’re someone who’s ever looked back at your old self and cringed a little—or if you’re navigating change and not sure how to feel about it—I hope this conversation helps you breathe a little deeper. We’re all growing. We’re all remembering. And sometimes, the most healing thing we can do is thank our past self and simply move forward.
