Proximity & Perception: Yoga, Ayurveda & Why Your Life Looks the Way It Does
Share:
“Your life looks the way it does because of what you’re close to, what you live inside of, and what you’ve learned to see as normal.”
In this episode, I explore how proximity shapes perception and why where you are, who you are around, and what you are exposed to deeply influence how your life unfolds. Using yoga and Ayurveda, this conversation looks at suffering, clarity, and how awareness can change your relationship to challenge and meaning.
How Proximity Shapes Perception in Daily Life
Proximity affects perception in ways we often overlook. Where you are, who you are around, and the ideas you are exposed to influence how you see yourself and the world. In this episode, I reflect on how feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or victimized can arise when we are too close to our circumstances to see the bigger picture. Ayurveda and yoga recognize that suffering is not just about what happens to us, but how we relate to it through our conditioning, habits, and environment. When we understand this, we begin to see that life is not simply happening to us. It is being filtered through proximity.
A Yoga and Ayurvedic View of Suffering and Awareness
Ayurveda and yoga were developed with one primary goal. To reduce suffering. Not just physical suffering, but mental and emotional suffering as well. From this perspective, awareness is the bridge between challenge and freedom. Yoga helps create clarity in the nervous system and the mind, while Ayurveda helps us understand how perception, belief, and mental patterns influence health and wellbeing. When we recognize that our perception is shaped by proximity, we stop assuming that our current view is the whole truth. This shift alone can soften struggle and create space for meaning and resilience.
Practical Insights You Can Apply Right Away
This episode is an invitation to look at your life with more curiosity and less judgment. You do not have to have all the answers to live well. Awareness, discernment, and intentional proximity can change how life feels, even when circumstances remain challenging.
In this episode, I talk about:
• Why proximity affects perception more than we realize
• How environment and relationships shape thought patterns
• The Ayurvedic understanding of suffering and clarity
• Why asking why is not a weakness
• How yoga supports mental clarity and emotional resilience
• Letting go of the need to see the whole picture to enjoy life
