Politics, Practice & the Peace of Perspective: A Yogic Reflection on Division and Discourse

“Avoiding something doesn’t make it disappear — it just keeps us from understanding how to meet it with awareness.”

Politics might seem like the last thing you’d expect to hear in a yoga podcast, but real practice doesn’t stop when you roll up your mat. In this episode, I reflect on what it means to bring yogic awareness into conversations that feel charged—whether that’s politics, religion, or any emotionally loaded topic that tends to divide. What I offer here isn’t an opinion piece. It’s a perspective piece. A reminder that spiritual practice doesn’t require avoidance, but conscious engagement when we’re ready.

Some of what I explore in this episode:

  • Why “not talking about it” can sometimes be avoidance, not peace

  • How to recognize when a conversation depletes vs when it opens new understanding

  • The yogic lens on tribalism, ego, and attachment to being right

  • Why you don’t need to convince anyone to maintain your clarity

  • The importance of trust, instinct, and staying connected to your purpose

The invitation here isn’t to debate. It’s to reflect. To pause. To consider how your practice extends into everyday life, even the uncomfortable parts. Because being awake in the world means being able to hold complexity without losing your center.
