Beyond Better: Shame, Blame & the Illusion of Progress

Share:

“You will never be able to shame, blame, or criticize yourself into being better. And furthermore, better is just an illusion because better really only exists in context of a goal, in context of a destination, in context of a journey.”

This one’s personal.

Because for a long time, I thought being hard on myself would make me better. That shame and blame were signs of growth. That self-criticism somehow proved I was doing the work.

But it never actually helped me heal.

In this episode, I’m getting honest about the illusion of “better.” We’ll talk about the trap of comparison, the cultural addiction to progress, and the quiet truth that sometimes, better is just a socially acceptable way to keep suffering.

Through yoga, Ayurveda, and my own lived experience, I’m offering a different lens: one rooted in self-compassion, context, and awareness—not punishment.

Inside this episode, I unpack:

  • Why “better” is always relative—and often a distraction
  • How pitta and vāta imbalance shows up as burnout and striving
  • The role of journaling and reflection in letting go of shame
  • What Ayurveda teaches about attachment and disease
  • How idealism can inspire us—and imprison us
  • Why mortality is the ultimate call to stop wasting time on self-criticism

If you’ve ever felt like you’re not doing enough or not being enough, this episode is for you. Let’s lay down the weight and remember who we really are.
